Hauerstein Consulting is a legal consultancy in development cooperation based in Indonesia and Germany.

The firm was established in 2000 as a sole proprietorship by Kai Hauerstein, a licensed lawyer in Germany ( Law Firm Mörder und Kollegen) and management consultant for legal reform projects.

Twenty years of experience designing, implementing and evaluating law reform projects for all the prominent donors in Southeast Asia and Africa. 

Areas of expertise: Policy and strategy consulting, Regulatory Impact Assessment and legal analysis, project cycle management (PCM), and project evaluation.

Kai Hauerstein has an extensive network of Indonesian legal experts, university lectures, and NGOs offering our clients integrated solutions that lead to results.

Kai Hauerstein is a  licensed German lawyer (LL.M)   with more than 20 years of experience implementing law reform projects. He has a deep understanding of the legal and business environment governing development cooperation. 

Specialisation: Tax law, business license law, national and international contractual law, property law, labour law, and NGO law. 

As a team leader in reform projects, he has a strong background in leading multifunctional teams, devising different policies, analysing legal and institutional frameworks, and delivering results. 

 Highlights:  Implemented more than thirty long and short term projects as a team leader or consultant;  published three lawbooks and ten articles/policy papers.
